In 2017, the festival was first held as the Regional Folklore Festival 'Zmey Goryanin', which grew into a national one as early as 2018. Its holding coincides with the celebration of Zverino – June 4 and the Botev celebrations. The organizers of the festival are the Zverino City Council and the 'Fakel-1926' Community Center, with the support of the Mezdra Municipality.

An inspiring event on a national scale, where over 500 amateur performers from different regions of Bulgaria – dancers, singers and instrumentalists – take to the stage of the National Folklore Festival 'Zmey Goryanin' every year.
The purpose of the festival is to get in touch with the unique Bulgarian folklore, preserved in the music, songs and dances; a folklore without an analogue, saturated with beauty, grace and rhythm, a symbol of our rich culture.
