After a short walk along the horizontal, we find ourselves at Shishmanovo Kale. The distance from the beginning of the route to here is just under a kilometer. To reach the remains of the fortress, you have to climb a path that branches off to the right and up. Only a wall and scattered stones remain from the fortress, but the view is impressive. This strategic position, which allows you to take in the entire Iskar River valley at a glance, is the reason for choosing the location for the fortification. The other reason is the natural protection of the position from the sheer cliffs that descend to the river from the northwest and southwest. In the middle of the fortification, there is also a small cave. At the saddle below the fortress, shortly after the information sign, the path splits to make a full circle. It is recommended to follow the route by continuing along the upper path that branches off to the left. You are now walking through bushes and forest. In about ten minutes, you reach the next fork. There is a short detour to a panoramic platform that looks directly at the meander of the river and the Zagrad area. You can rest in the shade, there is a wooden table with benches. We continue through the forest and climb up to reach the highest point of the hike. We have covered about 2 km so far. On the left, the old path through the quarry to the Cherepish Monastery branches off.
We begin to descend along the rocky slope to the right. From here on, the steeper and more challenging part of the route follows. Through the rugged terrain, between rocks, lilacs and primrose, after about 15 minutes we enter the forest again. Here there is a new fork. One path goes directly down the slope to the road tunnel. Our path turns right and gently descends through the forest. In less than 10 minutes we reach the foot of the rocks and the small cave Mechata dupka. You can climb to its entrance and enjoy the view from there.
Next is a descent along the rocks to the bottom of the valley. The path turns and descends almost to the road. We go around the base of the rock massif and to the right, again along the rocks, we cut through the slope overgrown with bushes and rare trees. Here is the lowest part of the path - below 300m above sea level. After a while we reach a platform from which you can enjoy an exceptional view of the Zagrad area, the limestone cliffs of Shishmanovo Kale and the Cherepishki Rocks. Here, before the road was built, the old cart road from Lyutibrod to the monastery passed. A gentle climb follows and after about 15 minutes we return to the fork under the fortress. From here, along the familiar path, we return to the starting point.
The trail begins in the highest part of the village of Lyutibrod at the place where the asphalt ends. At first, it starts on a road that quickly turns into a path. After a gentle climb in a southwesterly direction along an open rocky meadow, the first rocky ridge is quickly reached, which descends to the Iskar River. From here, a beautiful view opens up to the limestone cliffs on the right bank of the river and the railway line that runs between them. The trail makes a turn to the south and continues along the cliffs. Almost horizontally, you reach the place that gave the name to the route - Prosechen Kamak. Here the trail passes through a passage only about 3 meters wide, cut into the rocky ridge.
